Abstract
The use of blockchain technology is appreciated and accepted by many due to its perceived benefits, such as transparency, smart contracts, enhanced security & decentralization, immutability, and automation. It can transform many industries, such as healthcare, finance, supply chain, real estate, and education. One of the major challenges for academic institutions, employers and individuals is verifying and validating the certificates that may be created through forgery. In this chapter, we address the above-mentioned issues in education certificate verification by presenting a decentralized architecture based on blockchain technology for the issuance, validation and secured storage of educational qualifications to the university stakeholders. Trust is the backbone; and certain features like decentralization, immobility and transparency help in making these promises true and ensuring that an academic record’s commentary is intact. The purpose of this chapter is to frame up a way where we can use the features of blockchain in a way that are capable of providing the integrity, authenticity and traceability of the documents. By adopting novel technologies like cryptographic hashing, distributed ledger technology and smart contracts, the framework is tailored ...
