20Edge AI and Blockchain: A Synergy for Water Body Preservation

Abstract
Water pollution is a significant environmental problem with extensive impacts on both human health and the natural ecosystem. The rapid industrialization and urbanization have led to the generation of large amounts of wastewater containing a variety of pollutants, including synthetic dyes, heavy metals, and other hazardous substances. The stress on the water environment due to increased industrialization and urbanization is becoming increasingly severe, reducing the availability of clean water. Many technologies have been used to solve the issue of water crisis. Internet of Things (IoT) is used to record quality metrics of water, but the existing centralized techniques demand the use of high-end servers managed by third-party organizations. The involvement of third parties result in security issues and lack of transparency and trust. To tackle the aforementioned issue, blockchain is used as a preferred solution. It retains information using a decentralized architecture, which provides transparency and trust in the records for the people. The fact that human-being needs the motivation to help and contribute to government schemes whether it is for their benefit only has made the blockchain-based platform a solution, the oil spill of the Nigeria River is an example for same.
