It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
How to do it...

- The new Firebase API makes the process really easy; in order to subscribe to any topic, we just execute the following line of code, which simply translates to a button click or a switch on your settings pages:
FirebaseMessaging.getInstance().subscribeToTopic( "top-news");
- Now, if you want to unsubscribe from a given topic, you can just execute the following line of code:
FirebaseMessaging.getInstance().unsubscribeFromTopic("top-news");
