DISTRIBUTED-AUTHORITY NETWORKS, JUST BEGINNING TO play out in our world today, actually got their start more than 50 years ago. I think of the history of the internet to date as the world’s largest market test for what will happen next.
Up to now, common sense would tell us that control implies central authority—but that is not the world that is emerging. Central authority and clearly defined categories of control are breaking down into a much more distributed world that will be linked together through digital connectivity. We are on that path already in 2020, but this is just the beginning.
