The timing and connections between events that have taken place throughout Earth’s history are described by the geological time scale (GTS), a method of chronological measurement. The time scale was created by scientists after extensive global research on rock strata and fossils. The absolute divisions of the time scale were determined with the aid of radioactive dating.
