Anticipation

Imagine if there were no more surprises in life. If you could see into the future, that’s what life would be like. Knowing what and when things were about to happen would eventually become unbearable for many. Uncertainty of things to come is part of what keeps life interesting. Without uncertainty, life would be dull, and there’d be few reasons to live.

Anticipation is the body’s response to uncertainty in life. When an upcoming event is a good thing, like a holiday, the feeling of anticipation feels like a yearning. When someone isn’t looking forward to an upcoming event, the feeling is more like dread.
