iv. Laminar ow reactor: A tubular ow reactor, in which the uid ow is laminar,
represents gross deviation from the plug ow assumed in an ideal PFR. Laminar
ow is a streamlined ow of uid (see Figure 3.42) in which the uid elements mix
neither in the radial direction nor in the axial direction. Whereas in an ideal PFR,
there is complete mixing of uid in the radial direction and no mixing of uid in
the axial direction.
