369Heterogeneous Reactors
PROBLEM 4.12
A catalytic reaction between a chemical compound A in the gas phase and a compound B
in the liquid phase is carried out in a slurry reactor. The reaction is represented as
A
(g)
+ B
(l)
Products
Slurry is prepared by mixing 0.05 mm diameter catalyst particles with an aqueous
solution containing reactant B. This slurry is passed continuously through a stirred
tank into which a gas stream containing reactant A is bubbled at the rate of 1000 m
3
/h.
Slurry in the reaction vessel is well mixed. Bubbles rise individually in plug ow. The
bubbles are uniformly distributed and each bubble is 3 mm in diameter. Gas ...
