Chapter 5. Data Cloud Menu Options

In this chapter, we’ll review each of the Salesforce Data Cloud menu options at a high level. In later chapters, we’ll explore each of these menu options in detail. The purpose of this chapter is to introduce you to the Salesforce Data Cloud menu options that we’ll be using in our learning journey. The menu tabs are presented in alphabetical order.

Core Capabilities

​The Salesforce Data Cloud platform empowers users to create a unified customer database that is accessible to other systems and platforms. Within the Data Cloud platform, I’ve identified five core capabilities whereby we’ll divide up the menu tabs:

  • Data ingestion and storage
  • Data modeling and processing
  • Identity
  • Segmentation and activation
  • Actions and insights

One core capability, segmentation and activation, is specific to Salesforce Data Cloud for Marketing, and those menu options will require additional licensing. Of the four remaining capabilities, the Data Cloud data ingestion and storage capability is the underlying capability that makes all others possible. Once data ingestion and mapping is complete, the unification process of identity resolution is what provides the basis for creating the constituent components described in Chapter 3.

There are more than 20 main menu options available in the Salesforce Data Cloud platform. To provide some context for each option, I’ve created Figure 5-1, which classifies each menu option based on one of the five Data Cloud core capabilities ...
