The Year of Data Cloud
It’s a milestone year for Salesforce as they celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2024. Never one to rest on past successes, Salesforce continues with grand plans for the future. Marc Benioff, cofounder and CEO of Salesforce, has said this is the “Year of Data Cloud.” I believe he hit the mark. I started writing this book at the end of 2022 and I’ve been doing hands-on work with the new Data Cloud platform since February 2023. Ever since then, I’ve experienced the platform evolve in ways I didn’t expect and at a pace I couldn’t have imagined. Given what I’ve observed in these last 21 months, it certainly does feel like this is the Year of Data Cloud.
But what exactly is Salesforce Data Cloud? Salesforce has long been known as the global leader in CRM software, and its products are used by more than 150,000 customers worldwide. Data Cloud is a near real-time CDP at the heart of the Salesforce modern data tech stack. It is a powerful and complex platform that yields value for the entire organization, not just for those few who have direct access to the Data Cloud app within Salesforce.
Salesforce’s Data Cloud platform is built from the ground up, with a completely new architecture.
