- activation (of segments)
The process of materializing and publishing a segment to an activation platform (target). The target platform must be established as an activation target in Data Cloud before segments can be activated to the target platform. See activation target.
- Activation Audience data category
The data category automatically assigned to the Activation Audience DLO and inherited by the Activation Audience DMO when an activation target is created in Data Cloud.
- Activation Audience DLO
A type of DLO automatically created by the system when an activation target is configured. Stores activation details. The system-generated data category of Activation Audience is automatically assigned to the Activation Audience DLO when it’s created.
- Activation Audience DMO
A type of DMO automatically created by the system when an activation target is configured. Inherits the Activation Audience data category from the Activation Audience DLO.

- activation target (for segmentation)
The location, including authentication and authorization information, where a segment’s data will be sent during activation of a segment. Example activation targets include Salesforce Clouds like Marketing Cloud, Loyalty Cloud, Marketing Cloud Personalization, B2C Commerce Cloud, as well as Data Cloud.
