Noise Generators

White noise, (the sound heard when a radio or television is tuned between channels) consists of all audible frequencies at equal level. Pink noise is similar but has been put through a filter that rolls of 3 dB per octave. Here the higher the frequency, the greater the attenuation. This is done because pink noise is used with image-octave analyzers whose bandwidths become wider as the frequency increases. For example, between the first two center frequencies, 16 and 20 Hz, there are but 4 cycles. On the top end, between 12.5 and 16 kHz, there are 3,500 cycles!
