Whether or not using one control room to serve two studios is satisfactory depends upon the intensity of the recording schedule. If recording sessions are well spaced and the schedule is flexible, having only one control room might work very well. Certainly, the advantages of requiring only one console, one set of recording equipment, and using only one operator are self-evident.
The problem arises when it is necessary to use both studios simultaneously. Even if duplication of equipment and the use of two operators were accepted as the price for a fuller recording schedule, the conflict of monitor loudspeakers becomes apparent. Which recording job gets the loudspeaker(s)? Which operator uses headphones? ...
