UDB and AIX
Complex systems are by nature made up of multiple parts. In order for these systems to be
successful, the parts need to work together in a coordinated fashion, each taking advantage
of the other’s strengths. In this part of the book we give an overview of three major parts of
an Enterprise Database Server: the storage subsystem (Enterprise Storage Subsystem or
ESS), the operating system (AIX) and the database management system (DB2 Universal
