The look of a film affects how the story is perceived on visual, subliminal, psychological and emotional levels. Being inspired by the story and having the desire to share that with the viewer is what drives the search for the ‘look’ of the film and is the heart of the art of cinematography.

Bringing together knowledge of lighting, lens choice, aperture and shutter speed, the cinematographer controls the look of a film by nuancing the quality of light, color, sharpness and motion blur.
