Perception
In psychology, the term ‘perception’ is so broad that it can
embrace almost every aspect of the subject. In essence, it encom-
passes how we perceive ourselves, how we perceive others and
how others perceive us. It also envelops how we perceive the
world as a whole – the big picture – and how we perceive different
events, scenarios and situations that occur within the big picture.
In order to perceive others sympathetically we need to have
empathy with them, their character, aspirations and points of
view. Similarly, in order to fully understand ourselves we need to
recognize and know ourselves for what we are, rather that what
