Introduction
Many applications we use every day have a graphical user interface, or GUI
(pronounced goo-ey), which allows us to control the operation of the pro-
gram visually. For example, web browsers, such as Microsoft Internet
Explorer, provide menus, buttons, drop-down lists, and other visual input
and output devices to allow the user to communicate with the program
through mouse clicks, mouse movements, and by typing text into boxes.
GUIs enable the user to select the next function to be performed, to enter
