Kismet is an effective tool for locating and extracting useful information from wireless access points and devices.

Just a word of caution that: before you issue the command to start Kismet at the command line, you should ensure that if you are using an external Wi-Fi adapter, you have it installed and configured prior to issuing the command. By default, Kismet should be configured to use the wireless adapter that is present on the physical system; however, if you choose to use an external one, you may need to perform additional configuration in order to get your adapter configured and recognized by Kismet itself.
