Operators are one of the greatest strengths of RxJS, but what are they?

Operators are functions that can be applied to streams in order to transform them in various ways. Most operators are also fluent: you can chain them because applying an operation to a stream usually returns a new stream. Thanks to this feature, you can declare a set of operations to be performed whenever a value arrives, therefore defining complex stream processing rules in a declarative manner.

The composability of operators represents a key advantage of RxJS, but it should not be abused. You need to be careful because it is easy to make your code complex to read and understand if you go overboard.
