I have never once compared my work to that of Pablo Picasso or Vincent van Gogh; it’s just too different. Not only is my chosen medium as different from theirs as the themes I explore, but our work exists so many miles apart that it invites no comparison whatsoever. On the other hand, the work of a peer creating photographs with vision and creativity, or worse (for me, not them), creating work that is getting attention where mine is not makes for very easy comparison. I wish I could say I no longer felt the pangs of envy when looking at the magic others are creating, but I suspect it’s a very human thing to do. ...
