The Story
Anupy Singla is not your usual celebrity chef. She doesn’t wear a big white hat or sell a signature line of cookware. She often tells her audience not to worry so much about measuring every ingredient with NASA-like precision. She doesn’t have her own restaurant, or even aspire to. In fact, before writing her first cookbook, her “day job” was delivering the morning news on television.
After 10 years as an award-winning print journalist and broadcast TV anchor in the Chicago area, she decided to refocus on her kids and her real first love: cooking. Writing a cookbook had become an ambition for Anupy, and she had a unique idea to combine two popular topics together in a way that no one else had written about before—slow cooking and Indian food.
Writing a cookbook is all about deciding what to put in and what to leave out. Anyone who even considers it likely has hundreds of potential recipes to use. Anupy had the added complication of trying to teach people how to cook Indian food which can be complicated and vary widely in terms of how spicy people like to make it. So when she finally started writing the book, the first thing she did was start to test recipes.
