In this chapter, we consider several approaches for monitoring and controlling transportation activities. We begin with an air-versus-ocean operational monitoring system. To facilitate this and a second example that will follow it, we consider a hypothetical firm (Firm XYZ) operating the manufacturing and distribution network depicted in Figure 13.1.
