Introduction
Manufacturing and distribution planning and scheduling frameworks and their components can address an extremely broad range of management activities, from scheduling a single operation of one plant or distribution center to planning and scheduling operations over an entire global network. The introduction in Chapter 1 of a hierarchical planning framework described three broad planning levels (the strategic, tactical, and operational) that address a complex set of linked but different decisions.
