Incorporating Feedback Loops into Logistics Decision Support
Introduction
In this chapter, we illustrate the concept of “feedback loops” in logistics processes. The role of feedback loops receives relatively scant attention; however, these tools represent an essential function in ensuring alignment between plans developed at different levels (e.g., the tactical and operational) and ensuring efficient operational execution.
We begin this chapter by describing what feedback loops are. We then offer an example of a manufacturing feedback loop, followed by an illustration of an inventory management feedback loop. We conclude the chapter with some brief summary comments.
