In this chapter, I described some of the myths and misconceptions about Mac security but also pointed out a number of Mac OS X features that do a splendid job of making computing safer. I described how privacy is one of the main goals of security, although not the only one.
Because security sometimes comes at the cost of convenience, you must balance the two carefully when making decisions about how to protect your Mac. You should also consider any particular risks that may increase your need for security, regardless of convenience.
I also explained how a goal of this book is to help you make good decisions about security that are customized to your specific needs. And I showed you some easy steps you can follow to increase your security right away.
