We started this work by focusing on fundamentals. After the introduction of dosage in Chapter 1, Chapter 2 focused on expanding the metaphor of dosage, detailing its many elements, as well as discussing generally the uses and limits of metaphor. A substantial advantage of examining the dosage metaphor is its application to communication across a number of levels of analysis. Naturally, given its historically pragmatic focus, organizational communication theorists have concentrated on issues that could be related to dosage and, most interestingly, have often explicitly used metaphors as a basis for their conceptualizations.
