Chapter 6 focused on establishing a data quality model and process to baseline the current quality of the data, handle requests for data quality improvements, and self-feed through metrics for continuous improvement. It briefly covered aspects of data correction and data quality metrics, which will be expanded further in this chapter.
Figure 6.1 in Chapter 6 depicts the interaction of the many roles within the company needed on a data quality process. In essence, the underlying method within that process is represented in Figure 8.1.
Here is how the process and the method overlap:
- The specify task is achieved by the many drivers within the company, including the data governance council and the data quality forum.
- The profile task is performed by the data analysts to uncover many aspects of the data.
- The analyze task is executed by the design team and the data quality forum with feedback from the data governance council and applicable drivers and stakeholders.
- The improve task is carried on by IT support and/or data stewards upon proper approvals.
- The control task is implemented by the data quality team through monitors and scorecards, and reported to proper teams and data governance for proper tracking and future improvements.
