When JIRA is used to implement a complex use case with lots of conditions, validations, and workflows, there are certain configurations that are not doable using the existing set of features. For instance, you may want to auto-calculate a custom field value after a workflow transition. Using the ScriptRunner plugin, many such advanced configurations can be achieved. It comes with various built-in administration scripts, which give the administrators tremendous power to manage their instance.
