EIPはイーサリアム改善提案（Ethereum Improvement Proposal）の略です。EIPは、イーサリアムの新しい機能や、その機能が承認に至るまでのプロセスや、実行環境を記述しており、こうした情報をイーサリアムコミュニティに提供する設計書と言えます。EIPは、新しい機能の簡潔な技術仕様と理論的根拠を提供しなければなりません。EIPの著者は、コミュニティ内でコンセンサスを構築し、反対意見を文書化する責任があります。
