Preface

Sometime in 2007, the Physics Department at Mysore University requested me to teach a course in Mechanics for the first semester students of their newly introduced 5-year integrated MSc program. At that time I was already teaching a course in Electromagnetism under the same program. This was an additional responsibility which I accepted with humility and pleasure. As in the case of the course in Electromagnetism, my lectures in the classroom were supplemented by comprehensive lecture notes prepared on my computer using LATEX; A year later I taught the same course for the second time and revised my lectures of the previous year.
