Software architecture is a broad discipline that can target different levels. System architecture, or macro architecture, focuses on the overall structure of a system and the interaction between its parts. Most of the technical topics described in Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 are primarily about system design. On a lower level, there is the concept of service architecture, which is concerned with the structure of individual parts. More precisely, as its name suggests, the main focus is the runtime view. Yet, there are many constellations where the runtime layout of a system does not align with its architectural boundaries.
