Minecraft has lots of different types of blocks, and each type of block has its own texture. Texture usually refers to how something feels, but in Minecraft you can’t really feel a block because, well, it’s online. Instead, you can get an idea of what a block would feel like based on how the block looks. For example, cobblestone looks like it would feel rough because it looks like it has grooves in it. An iron block looks smooth because it’s completely flat on all sides.
Each type of block and texture gives a building a certain look or feel — like a personality. By the end of this chapter, you should have a feel for which types of blocks you want to use for different structures.
Using Smooth Textures
Blocks with a smooth texture look flat on all sides. You can use these blocks to make a building look clean or even fancy. A few types of smooth blocks are wooden planks, blocks of gold, or blocks of diamond — all are excellent blocks for buildings. Figure 7-1 shows the basic smooth textures in ...
