Chapter 18. Numbering and Sectioning

InDesign lets you create multiple sections within a document. For example, the numbering scheme of a book’s front matter, table of contents and index may be different from that of its body. Perhaps you’ll use roman numerals for the preface and regular (“Arabic”) numerals for the body of the book. You can control your document’s sections using the Pages palette.

Creating Sections

To create a section, select the page where you want the section to start in the Pages palette, then choose Numbering & Section Options from the palette menu. In the New Section dialog box (see Figure 18-1), turn on the Start Section checkbox to start a new section on the selected page.
