Elixir and Erlang: The Perfect Fit
Erlang and the BEAM are a fantastic choice for developing applications that communicate over a network. Ericsson developed Erlang in the mid-1990s to power telephone switches. Since then, its presence in the telecommunication field has been constant, so much so that even many of today’s mobile networks (4G, 5G, LTE) have a significant Erlang presence in their infrastructure. Elixir came to the scene much later than Erlang. But given that it’s built directly on top of Erlang and can seamlessly access Erlang’s standard library, it’s just as much of a natural choice.
