I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Wrapping Up
You have a working chat system on your hands! We built a functional chat server capable of distributing messages to clients, and we also built clients that can interact with this server. We had the chance to explore binary and textual protocols, the iodata data structure, registry-based routing, and asynchronous message handling.
But our chat system is not a particularly robust or scalable one. For that, we’ll have to look at some design patterns and strategies to make use of BEAM features and kick our server’s scalability into high gear. That’s what the next chapter is about.
