8.1 Principle of Sagnac Interferometer

The Sagnac effect is discovered by the French scientist G. Sagnac [1]. The Sagnac effect means that two beams of light with the same characteristics are separated by the same light source, transmitted in the same closed optical loop in clockwise (CW) direction and counterclockwise (CCW) direction, respectively, and finally converged to a point and interfered. Figure 8.1a shows the propagation of two beams of light in the closed optical path when the relative inertial space is stationary (CW and CCW).
