As part of a brand identity advertising campaign,
I was asked to photograph Roses and make them
look translucent. To photograph this Rose, I placed
it on a light box, lighting it from above and below.
I knew that to achieve the desired effect I would
need to intentionally overexpose the photo. My
initial overall light reading showed an exposure of
1/10 of a second and f/32 and ISO 100.
Next, I made a sequence of exposures manually,
each exposure letting in more light than the
previous exposure. I then compared the group of
exposures on my computer monitor. This exposure
met the needs of the assignment best, and is an
intentional overexposure of almost six times.
105mm f/2.8 macro lens, 2/5 of a second at f/22 and
ISO 100, tripod mounted.
