Advertising: It's one of the first things that comes to mind when you think about making money on a blog. In this chapter, I clear up some of the mysteries about the three main types of blog advertising — sponsorship, display advertising, and affiliate networks — so you can decide which, if any, is for you.

Gaining Perspective on Blogging for Money

Seventy-one percent of the bloggers in my professional blogging survey confirmed that advertising is by far the top source of blogger income (see Figure 6-1). Nearly 60 percent of the survey group reported earning less than 10 percent of their income from their blogs. Only 17.6 percent of the bloggers in the survey said they earned 100 percent of their income from their blog (see Figure 6-2).
