A variety of professionals can help with buying, holding and selling property and shares. This chapter provides a list of these professionals and an outline of how they might be of service.
You will deal with different professionals whether buying, holding or selling property. Some you will have a long-term relationship with, such as your accountant or property manager, but you may only deal with some people once, such as the real estate agent that sells you the property. Let’s look first at the professionals you can encounter when purchasing property.
Buying property
You may need to consult or work with some or all of the following professionals when you buy a property.
Accountant
The accountant is critical in buying, holding and selling property. Before you sign a contract, you should consult with your accountant and discuss the investment structure that best suits you and your financial goals. They might advise you to buy the property in your own personal name or in joint names, or through a company, family trust or self managed superannuation fund, for instance. An accountant is qualified to give this advice as they understand your financial situation and your investment goals.
