In Chapter 2, I discuss how to create service items and non-inventory items in any QuickBooks company. In this chapter, I show you how to track physical inventory items in a Plus or Advanced company. I then discuss purchase orders, which are non-posting transactions that document requests for goods and services you’ve placed with a vendor.
Keep in mind that inventory tracking in QuickBooks Online is rather simplistic. My technical editor Dan DeLong sums it up as “I buy some stuff, and then I sell that stuff.” If your business involves purchasing products like shoes from a wholesaler and selling them without modifications, QuickBooks' physical inventory tracking will likely meet your needs. However, if your operations involve manufacturing or transforming raw materials into finished goods, you may find QuickBooks Online's inventory tracking insufficient.
