Antipattern9.4 Overstaying Sessions

Somewhere back in the dim reaches when the original Java Servlet specification was being created, it was decided that the default session timeout should be thirty minutes. That is the length of time a session will stay resident in memory after the user’s last request. As discussed in Chapter 7, Case Study: Trampled by Your Own Customers, the user actually goes away at the beginning of the session timeout period. The trouble is that you cannot predict which request will be the user’s last. (Sounds ominous, doesn’t it?) All you can say for certain is that the session resides in memory after the user is long gone.
