9.9 Integration Point LatencyEvery communication with another system entails a certain amount of latency. A remote call takes at least 1,000 times as long as a local call. Whether that remote call is via DCOM, CORBA, web services, or a binary socket protocol, the caller will sit around doing nothing while waiting for a response. The caller must be processing some transaction, or it wouldn’t be calling. Therefore, you know the caller takes at least as long to respond as the remote system.
