One consequence of server virtualization and the build out of massive data centers and clouds is a shift in how companies deploy new servers and how they upgrade existing servers when they need replacing. Referred to as a truck roll (because building a new data center meant you had a bunch of delivery trucks that were heading your way), the build out of cloud data centers and networks changed in some profound ways—both in scale and design philosophy.
