Abstract

Cyber-physical system (CPS) results from the combination of physical processes with communication and computation. The purpose of this integration is to add more value and intelligence to social life. The CPS and in particular CPSS, i.e., cyber-physical social systems, are still in their adolescent stage, and therefore various challenges and developments still need to be addressed. The majority of the present-day designed physical systems and their cyber modules are used by human beings in social and natural environments. Techniques, such as big data for social transportation, provide the necessary methods and opportunities for solving transportation problems. The data generated in CPS and rapid growth in usage of social networks offer near real-time human-sensing capabilities as a complementary information source. In this chapter, a detailed framework of CPSS in intelligent transportation is explained that characterizes the different methods and approaches required for the application of CPSS in smart transportation. The framework not only highlights the different novel technologies utilized in CPSS for transportation in general but also presents the different challenges which need further research. It is anticipated that the framework and is explanation will be highly ...
