Chapter 3. Designing for a Progressive Medium
Mobile is a medium that won’t stand still and refuses to be pigeonholed. As a medium, it has constantly evolved over the last decade and has been reinvented in ways never imagined. Mobile started as a medium for voice calls (see FIGURE 3.1), then branched out to include text messaging, web access, robust native applications, location-based awareness, and rich social networking. It now serves as a platform for multidevice convergence. Your mobile device is now your camera, MP3 player, email tool, and calendar all rolled up into one device.
