At the outset of the book we stated that the methods are applicable to the specification of systems, hardware, or software, and earlier in Part V we emphasized the fact that systems come in hierarchies, as illustrated in Figure 24.1. We will now discuss how this hierarchical property helps us create the hardware and software architectures.
