It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

A multiscale synergistic damage mechanics approach for modeling progressive failure in composite laminates

Abstract
This chapter reviews the progress on synergistic damage mechanics (SDM) modeling of progressive failure in composite laminates. The major concepts underlying continuum damage mechanics are briefly summarized. Motivated by limitation of this approach, a combined microdamage and continuum damage mechanics is developed and applied for multiple ply cracking damage modes in multidirectional laminates.
