Be certain to reward successful performance. Good intentions, activity, hustle and bustle, loyalty, and goodwill may be valuable, but they constitute inputs. Outputs count. When team members have accomplished what you have asked them to, reward them. That doesn’t mean you can’t set subgoals on the road to the final goals and reward the team’s progress as it reaches each subgoal. But achieving the final goal is what counts.
