The National Minimum Wage
From April 2020, the National Minimum Wage hourly rates are £8.20 if you are aged 21 to 24, £6.45 if you are aged 18 to 20, and £4.55 if you are under 18.
In April 2016, a minimum wage for workers aged over 25 was introduced called the National Living Wage; it currently stands at £8.72 an hour. It is difficult to express pay for jobs paid at the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage rate as an annual salary, as the amount will vary according to the number of hours worked a week. Often these jobs are not full time. This guide refers to ‘the minimum wage’ to cover both the National Minimum Wage and the National Living Wage.
