There are many roles besides that of dentist – all combining to provide dental care and services in the National Health Service and private dental care services.
Dentist
Dentists work to keep teeth and gums healthy. They try to prevent, detect and treat tooth decay and gum disease. This involves examining, filling, crowning and extracting teeth, scaling, and cleaning teeth and gums. They design and fit dentures and plates and take corrective measures for teeth growing abnormally. Cosmetic dentistry, whitening or fixing veneers to teeth, is also an expanding area of their work.
